Top Tips and Ideas for planning an Autumn Wedding
When it comes to planning your special and magical day, it can sometimes feel a bit overwhelming trying to choose when you’d like to get married. With so many different options to think about when it comes to selecting a date for your wedding, you might be finding it a bit of a challenge when it comes to narrowing it down. As we all know, summer tends to be a popular season for all and a first choice for many, but have you ever considered an autumnal wedding?
Perhaps it’s not the first season you’d consider, but here at Darren Gritton Photography, I believe autumn can be perfect for so many different reasons and as we are now entering this dazzling season, I’m going to run through my ‘Top 10 benefits of having an autumnal wedding.’
1 More availability
As we all know, the summer months tend to be exceptionally popular for most when it comes to booking and planning a wedding which can prove to be a real challenge at times when you’re trying to narrow it down to one specific date. You might find you struggle more trying to book your favourite venue or that it has less availability during these times as they can tend to get fully booked months or even a year in advance, especially on the weekends. However, an autumnal wedding tends to offer couples a bit more flexibility when it comes to trying to book a wedding date. You might find there are a lot more dates available for you to consider, especially during the week.
2 Guest attendance
As we know, getting time off work to attend a wedding isn’t always easy; especially if it’s during the summer holidays. That’s where an autumnal wedding can be a real bonus as your guests may find it easier to take holiday from work to attend and are less likely to be away on holiday themselves.
3 Exceptional weather
The added bonus of having an autumnal wedding is that can you also have glorious weather on your momentous day without the intense heat that some couples can struggle with. Here in the UK, the autumnal months tend to offer gorgeous sunny and radiant skies with a slightly cooler and refreshing surrounding making for a more comfortable and pleasant wedding day experience; whether that’s with the bride wearing a gorgeous full-length wedding dress or with the groom being dressed in a formal wedding ensemble.
4 An earlier wedding ceremony
Having an earlier wedding ceremony can really help to capture the natural daylight available on your big day. You could have your drinks reception outside amongst nature whilst also enjoying the luxury of being able to watch a gorgeous warm sunset. Not only will it be romantic for you and your guests but it will also allow you all to indulge in the cosiness of the nights drawing in more.
5 Evening entertainment
As we know, there’s nothing we all love more that being able to get cosy amongst the stars or to snuggle up around a fire pit, so who’s to say your can’t enjoy this on your wedding day too? You and your guests could enjoy sparklers around the fire pit whilst toasting marshmallows under the stars. The children in your wedding party could also enjoy making their very own hot chocolates using sprinkles, cream and the toasted marshmallows. Not only can this be a huge saving for your wedding budget but it can also be a great and slightly unique way of having some ‘different’ evening entertainment.
6 Sensational backdrops
As we know, one of the most striking settings of the autumnal season are the gorgeous leaves falling from trees and the outstanding sense of exquisite nature it can offer to your wedding shots. With an array of orange/red/brown tones, they can make for a real iconic and striking backdrop for your bridal party. With warm and crisp effects, they can also prove to be very eye catching whilst adding a sense of depth to your images.
7 A warm colour palette
As we know, the autumn months tend to offer a wide variety of warm and natural tones; from burnt orange to vibrant reds making the perfect opportunity to add a bold sense of colour to your wedding without it being too overpowering; whether that’s in the form of the bridal party attire or your wedding bouquet perhaps. Either way, they’ll make a strikingly stunning statement and will be eye catching for all to enjoy.
8 Flowers
The transitional period from summer to autumn can also have a huge effect when it comes to your wedding flowers. Not only do they offer an exceptional colour palette to work with, but you’re also able to link in some fond favourites too such as red roses or orange tulips. Another bonus is that you’re able to make use of natural autumn foliage that is available during this season. These can really help to enhance and develop the autumn theme.
9 Natural/eco-friendly confetti
Confetti can be super fun at an event, but many venues have stopped allowing it, due to the environmental impact, not to mention the cleaning. As we know, the colourful display that leaves can offer during the autumnal months can be simply breathtaking. So why not incorporate them into your wedding confetti? You could purchase a hole puncher and use the vast array of leaves that are available on the ground in a wide variety of colours to help make your very own biodegradable confetti. Not only will it save you money but it will be fun too! Honestly, who needs paper confetti or pieces of shiny plastic when you can make your own stunning eco-friendly confetti using leaves!
10 The lower cost
As we know, the summer season tends to hold its prices more so if you’re considering your wedding during the months of September - November then you’ll probably notice that the prices for most wedding vendors tend to drop off quite significantly in comparison. This is because it’s not considered to be the “peak wedding season”. Therefore, you’re more likely to get a much better deal on your wedding; such as the venue, catering, entertainment and much more.
I hope this guide will help you to consider a wedding with a difference whilst also helping you to think outside the box and get creative.
